License Restrictions

The files are protected by copyright and no unauthorized use is permitted.

You may use the files on all types of web servers and with any third-party software without prior approval.

You shall not offer the files for sale or redistribution without prior authorization.

You shall not mirror the files without prior authorization.

If you intend to make use of the files in conjunction with a commercial product or service that contains a client-based auto-update feature, you shall contact us first to obtain permission. Said permission is usually perfunctory. Mostly we're concerned with things like what the added load on our servers might be. If the potential load is too large you might be asked to mirror the files on one of your servers and have your customers update via your mirror. If you want to disregard this request and launch your product without consulting us, please plan on your customers losing access to their updates fairly quickly. In short, it's a lot easier to be polite about this and contact us first. That way we can work with you to ensure you'll get the level of services you'll need without the risk and embarrassment of your customers being cut-off from receiving updates.

All other license restrictions remain as-is.

Automation & Abuse

If you want to automate the process of checking for new versions of the files you shall use one of the methods defined in our FAQ. Any other method shall be considered abuse. Our goal is to make it easy for you to check for updates, but we also want to ensure you do it right so as to minimize the use/abuse of our online resources.

These are the main things we consider abuse:

  1. Checking for updates and downloading the files more than 100 times per 24 hours.
  2. Sending an HTTP_USER_AGENT header that is less than ten characters in length,
  3. Use of the User Agent Checker or Your Browser pages remotely.

If you're going to be testing a script please contact us in advance of testing so we can take steps to mitigate any negative impacts on the testing process. For example, this will ensure you don't get banned for abuse due to exceeding our 100 hits per day limit.

Initial abuse will result in your IP Address being automatically blocked from accessing the files for 24 hours. Continued abuse will eventually result in a more permanent IP Address ban!

Errors & Omissions

Despite our best efforts there are occasionally errors & omissions in the files that can result in user agents and their capabilities being incorrectly identified. Errors & omissions bother us and we correct them as quickly as possible, however we assume no liability for any such errors or omissions in the files.

Modifications

Even though we almost always announce changes, we still reserve the right to make modifications to these Terms of Use at any time without any notification.
